Watch: Carnival Cruise Line ship rocked by rough weather

carnival cruise weather forecast

We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world. Guests were refunded the port fees and any pre-paid shore excursions for missing the popular destination. The Alaska cruise weather in June is fairly cool, but it has the least amount of rainfall during the Alaska cruise season. You can expect Alaska cruise temperatures in May to have lows of around 40 and highs of around 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

Allure of the Seas – December 11 Sailing

Great Stirrup Cay was to have been the final port of call for the sailing, but now the ship is heading straight back to Port Canaveral. The ship is sailing an eight-night Bahamas itinerary, which did have a delayed departure out of New York City and ended up remaining overnight. Allure of the Seas arrived back at Port Canaveral on schedule on Friday morning, though it is likely her next itinerary – a 3-night weekend getaway to Nassau and CocoCay, will also be impacted by the poor weather.

Caribbean Temperatures

The vessel is sailing a cruise nowhere until arriving back home to Port Canaveral on December 18. Each of the following ships has itinerary updates related to this weekend’s expected rough weather. Many cruise ships begin their summer deployments to Alaska in May before peak season begins in June. But rainfall historically is moderate in June and climbs steadily until reaching a high point in September. It declines a bit in October for most destinations and declines even more in November.

Alaska Cruise Weather in July

We’ve put together this Alaska cruise weather guide to help you find the best time to cruise to Alaska. The Carnival Panorama was built in 2019 and is amoung Carnival's 26 ships in it's fleet. In the cruise ship stats below you'll find the Carnival Panorama vs all other Carnival ships. Meenan also noted that the crew worked hard to make the remainder of the sailing pleasant for passengers.

Cruise Weather (4–7 days)

May is one of the best times to visit Alaska for dry weather, fewer crowds, and lots of wildlife. Guests are asked not to head to the cruise terminal for embarkation until they have received a final update from the cruise line, in case there are changes or delays. We work hard to strike a balance between content and ads and as a free site we greatly appreciate your support in permitting ads to render.

While there are no itinerary adjustments confirmed at this time, guests will want to stay in close contact with the cruise line in case of further updates or last-minute changes. The April 13, 2024 cruise on the Carnival Panorama departs from Long Beach, California. On this 7 Night Mexican Riviera sailing, the ship will visit a total of 4 different cruise port destinations, including its departure port. The Carnival Panorama sets sail on a Saturday (April 13, 2024) and returns on a Saturday (April 20, 2024). The spokesperson said the ship went on to the port as soon as the weather started to clear. The ship’s arrival in Charleston was delayed, as was embarkation for the vessel’s following sailing.

Caribbean Rainfall by Month

A bigger challenge than water temperatures for Caribbean cruise weather is rainfall because of the annual hurricane season, which officially runs from the beginning of June through the end of November. In the event that a change in itinerary is necessary, Carnival Cruise Line aims to provide alternative ports of call that offer similar experiences and attractions. The company strives to minimize any inconvenience caused by itinerary alterations, while still providing guests with an enjoyable and enriching vacation experience. Any guests sailing in the region over the next few days, including coastal cruises as well as fall foliage sailings, may want to be prepared for less-than-ideal weather and the possibility of itinerary adjustments. The 128,000-gross ton Carnival Magic is sailing from Norfolk, Virginia on Sunday, September 24, also for a 6-night Bermuda cruise, which will enjoy an overnight port visit to Kings Wharf. The 88,500-gross ton Carnival Legend is setting sail from Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, September 24, for a 6-night Bermuda sailing, with no ports of call other than Kings Wharf for an overnight visit.

The temperatures in September are slightly cooler, with highs of 55 and lows around 40 degrees fair height. The “in-between” seasons with moderate rainfall are usually the months of May and December. The center of the storm is currently 620 miles (998 kilometers) east of Bermuda, moving north at 14 miles per hour (23 kilometers per hour).

In conclusion, Carnival Cruise Line has developed a robust weather policy to ensure the safety and comfort of its passengers amidst changing weather conditions. The company’s commitment to maintaining a high level of guest satisfaction and safety is evident in the comprehensive measures implemented to mitigate the impact of adverse weather. Carnival Cruise Line’s Weather Policy aims to ensure that guests enjoy a memorable and safe experience, even when faced with changing weather conditions. By implementing transparent communication, flexible itinerary adjustments, and passenger-focused compensation measures, Carnival Cruise Line strives to provide a worry-free vacation for all its guests. The warming weather allows cruise ships to travel through the Arctic waters providing unique opportunities for passengers.

The resorts of the Zona Dorada ("Golden Zone") deserve their fame, as does the sport-fishing which is known the world over, yet somehow the city maintains much of the simplicity and peace of its fishing village past. Hollywood discovered this little fishing village back in the 1960's, and since then luxury resorts and bougainvillea-covered villas have flourished in the delightful seaside climate. The vessel has cancelled its scheduled call to Princess Cays in the Bahamas on December 17. The call to San Juan, Puerto Rico, on December 19 is still expected to go ahead, a letter said to passengers. As school returns to session, cruise prices dip and provide travelers with last-minute bargains to take an Alaskan cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line has informed guests arriving for their Carnival Pride December 17 departure from Port Tampa Bay that embarkation is delayed by two hours. The Spirit-class ship is still scheduled to visit Cozumel, Belize, and Costa Maya during its six-night voyage. In the interest of guests’ safety and comfort, cruise lines are cancelling ports of call and shifting routes to find the smoothest sailing to take advantage of. During this month, you can expect the weather begins to cool, higher rainfall, and gorgeous fall landscapes. Although the dry season is a popular time to cruise, the rainy season has some appeal for budget-minded travelers because prices are usually lower.

carnival cruise weather forecast

Rough seas, high swells, and strong winds are causing multiple cruise ships to change itineraries this weekend. The Meraviglia-class cruise ship has a significant itinerary change, which guests were notified about on December 15. With the bad weather conditions impacting Florida and the Bahamas, the cruise line has decided to send the ship up north rather than heading south. For those planning a Carnival Cruise, it is recommended to review the cruise line’s weather policy and familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions. Additionally, it is advisable to purchase travel insurance that covers trip interruptions or cancellations due to adverse weather. This provides an added layer of protection and peace of mind in case unforeseen circumstances arise.

Carnival Jubilee ship review: A complete cruise guide

what is carnival cruise line's newest ship

These are great examples of how Carnival has paid attention to passenger preferences. In their downtime, the crew was encouraged to attend the evening theater shows to cheer on the entertainment staff, who had been rehearsing diligently to fine-tune their performances. Crew members were also invited to test the vessel's top-deck activities, including the ropes course and the Bolt roller coaster.

Mardi Gras

The Carnival cruise ship underwent a huge $200 million transformation and is now part of the Sunshine-class, which also includes Carnival Radiance and Carnival Sunshine. The vessel was previously known as Carnival Triumph, which originally entered service in 1999. Carnival Celebration is the second Excel-class vessel and sister ship to Mardi Gras. The Carnival Celebration arrived during a year of Carnival Cruise Line’s 50th birthday festivities and was christened in Miami, Florida. The biggest difference is that the line's older vessels are considerably smaller than its newer ones.

Carnival Jubilee

Passengers who wish to avoid dressing up can enjoy dinner in any of the casual eateries aboard. Carnival Jubilee does not have a specific daytime dress code, and people dress casually. If it's a sea day in a warm-weather destination, and you're bound for the top deck, T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits (with a cover-up to go inside) are just fine. Of the performances, I most enjoyed two main-theater shows that are also found on some other ships in the fleet. Prices vary by sailing, but on my voyage, they were $500 per day from 8 a.m. Pool lifts accommodating up to 300 pounds are available for passengers with limited mobility.

what is carnival cruise line's newest ship

Carnival Jubilee cabins and suites

The debut of the Excel Class marked a maritime milestone for Carnival Cruise Line, as the company had never built a ship as big or advanced in its history. The flagship vessel, Mardi Gras, was nearly 40% bigger than anything the cruise line had built before. Following the success of Mardi Gras, Carnival Cruise Line built Carnival Celebration in 2022 and Carnival Jubilee in 2023. This vessel was first put into service in 1996 under the name Carnival Destiny, and was the inaugural ship of the Destiny Class. In 2013, the Carnival Destiny underwent a remarkable 49-day, $155-million dollar refurbishment and was renamed and reclassified as the first Sunshine Class ship.

what is carnival cruise line's newest ship

As of December 4, 2023, the newest new-build ship in the fleet is the Carnival Jubilee, the third Excel-class vessel in the fleet. The vessel took over from sister ship Carnival Celebration, which joined the fleet at the end of 2022. Carnival Firenze is also a recent addition to the fleet, but not completely new, as she was transferred from Costa Cruises in 2024. A testament to that is the rollout of its Fun Ship 2.0 initiative, which cost $500 million and took five years to implement. Carnival Cruise Line will automatically move all reservations made until November 21, 2022.

Revamped Carnival Glory headed to Port Canaveral

The vessel has become completely new after previously being named Carnival Destiny, which originally entered service in 1996. She’s the newest addition to the Carnival fleet and becomes the 27th ship. Carnival's Excel class is the newest of the line's nine classes, comprising Mardi Gras (2021), Carnival Celebration (2022) and Carnival Jubilee, which is set to begin sailing for the line in late 2023. Additionally, although it's already built, Costa Firenze — which sailed its maiden voyage for Costa Cruises in 2021 — will become Carnival Firenze when the vessel transfers to Carnival in 2024. The vessel, along with sisters Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, was designed as a throwback to the ship of the same name, which sailed for Carnival Cruise Line from 1986 to 2004.

This ship will be almost identical to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. Carnival Jubliee will sail out of Galveston, Texas offering week-long Caribbean itineraries. For example, Carnival Luminosa is a new addition to the fleet, but the ship sailed for Costa Cruises as Costa Luminosa since 2009.

Carnival Jubilee bars

The Carnival vessel is 88,500 gross tons and has a guest capacity of 2,124 at double occuapncy. Due to the design of this class ship, she is popular on cruises in Alaska and can transit the Panama Canal. Carnival Sunrise is a completely new cruise ship and departed on her inaugural voyage in April 2019. The vessel is 101,509 gross tons with a guest capacity of 2,984 at double occupancy and 1,108 crew members. The Carnival cruise ship has a gross tonnage of 180,800 and a guest capacity of 5,282 at double occupancy.

STATEROOM DESIGN

Following the success of this class, Carnival Cruise Line has only released plans for building one additional new cruise ship in 2025 and none in 2026. Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you’re looking to cruise aboard Carnival Luminosa. Any time you’re in your room, you’re just steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis, featuring the sort of sea view you can also feel. “They need to make sure that their destination is driving awareness,” Stein answered, “so that people want to go there.

Like most of the cruise industry, demand for cruising has been unprecedented within the last year. Most cruise ships are sailing near full capacity with cruisers paying higher cruise fares than pre-pandemic. Capacity for 2024 is projected to be even higher than 2023 for Carnival Cruise Line. When cruise ships are in Texas waters, the onboard bars are only allowed to serve alcohol that was obtained in Texas.

With calming seafoam green and yellow decor alongside extras like Elemis toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, these are some of the most relaxing cabins on any ship. These guests also receive priority spa appointments and free access to fitness classes and the onboard thermal suite. One example is the Dr. Seuss-themed Seuss-a-palooza Parade that makes its way through the Currents zone once per sailing. I happened to be sitting at a table in the area when the festivities kicked off.

The ship sails from Long Beach, California visiting ports of call along the Pacific Coast en route to Mexico. The first was built in 1987 and sold to Iberocruises in 2008 before being transferred to Costa Cruises in 2014 and finally being scrapped in 2021. Costa Venezia is a modified Vista-class ship, so she will be most similar to Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon and Carnival Panorama. Here are the Carnival ships that are currently sailing, starting with the newest. The third ship in Carnival’s Excel Class, Carnival Jubilee, will launch in 2023.

Fun fact is that the "Norwegian Escape" name was selected through a Facebook contest with 10 potential names options. The contest was traditionally called "Norwegians Name Their Ships", and included NCL FB fans votes. The same way company's fans picked the names of Breakaway and Getaway. Escape ship's hull theme is by Guy Harvey (marine wildlife conservationist).

Engine room fire breaks out on NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line's ship Norwegian Escape

Guy Harvey was the lucky man chosen in 2014 to paint Escape’s hull art. Norwegian Escape has the innovative features found on Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway, as well as a number of new interactive experiences. The new 4,200-passenger miracle by NCL features an expanded Haven – the line’s concept “ship within a ship”. This space (accessible only by keycard) boasts an outdoor terrace, private restaurant, courtyard area with retractable roof pool, whirlpools, spa treatment rooms, separate sauna, private sundeck. Other differences from the Breakaway-class NCL vessels are more Haven Suites (42 to 55), 26 additional Penthouses, 14 Spa access suites, more Studio cabins (59 to 82). Built in 2015, the Norwegian Escape cruise ship weighs 165K tons and has 2174 staterooms for up to 5218 passengers served by 1731 crew.

The Spa

These are the first boutiques to be designed specifically for a Norwegian Cruise Line ship. When you want some "me" time, look no further than Mandara Spa®. Relax with a hot-stone massage, one of over 50 specialty treatments offered. At our onboard spas, treatments range from the classic to the luxurious.

The Norwegian Escape sails from her home port of Miami year-round on 6- to 14-day cruises to the Bahamas and the eastern and/or western Caribbean. Sailing to these warm weather destinations fits perfectly with her large amount of outdoor activity space, outdoor dining venues, and outdoor bars. Engage in Norwegian Cruise Line's onboard activities, including water parks, casinos, dance clubs, arcades, ropes courses, sports courts, duty-free shops and more. These Mini-Suites include two lower beds that convert to a queen. And because they are aft-facing, the view from your large private balcony is amazing.

Families enjoy spots to come together for some bonding time. These are some of the few, top ways to stay entertained during a Norwegian Escape cruise. The Atrium is also home to a variety of game shows throughout your cruise. Getting “balcony seats” near O’Sheehan’s Pub on Deck 7 can offer a great vantage point to all of the craziness. Catching one of these activities is a great way to take a break from the Caribbean sun, so check your daily schedule for a complete listing. Starboard, you find Pincho, a tapas restaurant, and the neighboring Bayamo.

This venue also offers both live music and virtual concerts. Even if you are not a gambler, it is worth checking out this bar during your cruise. Right behind this area is the main pool or family pool which is situated between the entrance to the water slides and the Kids Aqua Park. It felt a bit tight, so we can only imagine how busy it gets during peak times of the year. Gaining access to this area for our Norwegian Escape Photo Tour, we got to explore the Haven, including an Owner’s Suite that was not occupied. Also located here is the Haven Restaurant, open for all three meals.

On some nights of the cruise, comedy acts were featured here. There were two comedians that alternated showings at 7, 9, and 11pm (adult’s only). Some of these are great for a casual drink, others provide more elegant surroundings. I especially loved the District Brew House, a new partnership for Norwegian with the Wynwood Brewing Company of Miami.

The menu does stay the same all week and is different than the main dining room menus. For those who are looking for some privacy, you can purchase a weekly pass to the Vibe Beach Club, which includes private deck chairs and umbrellas, a private bar, and a hot tub. The cruise ship has two Tony Award-winning musicals in the Escape Theater, which is the largest entertainment venue on the ship. One thing common on the carpet in the cabin passageways of all Norwegian ships is that the "fish face forward", which makes finding your cabin much easier. The carpet in the hallways features small fish all swimming in the same direction--forward.

Port of Roatan Bay Islands, Honduras

coxen hole cruise port

You can get off the ship and spend the day reading on a beach chair or swimming in the crystal clear waters. This Honduran island has a Central American influence with a Caribbean twist. Activities and amenities, including shopping, restaurants, and bars, are within walking distance of the port. As part of our recent cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, we visited the beautiful island of Roatan.

Duty-Free Shopping

In addition to cocktails and other beverages, the menu includes food items such as quesadillas, nachos, wings, grilled chicken, ceviche, and more. There’s so much to do in the port area that you could spend your entire day ashore just enjoying what it has to offer. However, if you plan to go off exploring on your own or taking an excursion, there’s also a transportation spot with taxis and shuttles available. This trail takes you back into a wooded area and winds around the water. If you have mobility issues, we recommend either taking the chairlift or the paved path as the nature trail includes some slight elevation changes and has loose gravel. But if you want a nice trip through some flora on your way to the beach — and some great spots to take photos of your ship — consider choosing the nature trail.

Coxen Hole cruise terminal

The Port of Roatan, located in Coxen Hole, is the island’s original cruise port and caters to a variety of cruise lines. West End is a small village, local hangout and activities’ hub located 20 minutes from Coxen Hole. West End is full of restaurants, bars, clubs, stores, shops, galleries, beautiful beaches, and bays. To get to the parking area, you will have to walk past the tour and excursion booths and make a left at the end of the walkway. Once you exit the Town Center building, you will notice passengers being dropped off in the parking area, just outside the main door and inside the port.

Scuba Dive at the Mayan Reef

Located adjacent to Mahogany Bay beach is a zipline that takes you right down into the beach area. The zipline runs through jungle vegetation and over water, ravines, mangroves, and creeks. The ride includes altitudes between 16 and 65 feet and covers a distance of 1,600 feet.

If you’re taking a cruise to the western Caribbean, your itinerary might include a stop to the Honduran island of Roatán. There are two cruise ports there, one of them being the Carnival Corp.-owned Mahogany Bay. When visiting Roatan on a cruise, one of the important decisions you’ll need to make is how to plan your onshore excursions. The variety of cruise lines visiting Roatan ensures that there’s something for everyone, whether it’s a family adventure, a luxurious getaway, or a culturally enriching experience. Throughout the year, the island plays host to a variety of cruise lines, each offering unique experiences and itineraries that include Roatan as a key port of call.

Monkey Around at Gumbalimba Park

Our ship docked at what is known officially as the “Port of Roatan” and is located at the town of Coxen Hole. The description of the excursion was a little vague, so we didn’t know exactly what to expect. In reality, the three parts of the tour were completely separate. Still, we enjoyed the tour and really liked getting three different experiences in one day in Roatan. Our first (and thus far, only) visit to Roatan was on a Western Caribbean cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway. We had heard many great things about the island and were eager to visit.

Tours, Shore Excursions, and Car Hire

Car rentals are available on Roatán, with rental kiosks near the cruise terminal. The island is easy to navigate, just watch for horses and cows on the road. Mahogany Bay cruise terminal can accommodate 2 large vessels (post-Panamax sized) simultaneously. The island is popular for its beaches (West End, Camp Bay), crystal water, all-year sunny weather, clear blue skies.

There were several other animals, including spider monkeys and the coatimundi, which looks kinda like a raccoon. We even saw a paca, which is a large rodent, rummaging through the jungle floor, not part of the exhibits. Thankfully, there are also quite a few excursions that combine two or three of these popular activities. Over at the Mahogany Bay Cruise Center port area just off the ship, there are even more choices when it comes to food and beverages. The Mahogany Bay Cruise Center is located on the southern side of Roatán, a 33-mile-long Honduran island located north of the mainland in the Caribbean Sea. The development, which opened in late 2009, is a joint venture between Carnival Corporation and local businessman Jerry Hynds.

So, when we do want to book a tour, we always check Viator first.Click here to book a tour. From there, it was time to relax on the beach and soak up some sun! Our bus dropped us off at the Las Palmas Resort, where we had nearly two hours to enjoy the beach, get some lunch and sip on a couple of pineapple rum drinks.

The Port of Roatan can only accommodate one cruise ship at a time alongside its pier and two more ships via anchorage. If your day in port coincides with another ship's arrival, you might be docked, or you might need to tender to shore. Usually, Royal Caribbean cruise ships dock while Norwegian cruise ships tender when they coincide at Port of Roatan. This 20-acre beachfront adventure park offers many options for adventure seekers. It serves ships from the fleets of NCLH-Norwegian, RCG-Royal Caribbean, MSC, and Virgin Voyages. Coxen Hole is the capital of Bay Islands and their largest city.

I hope you are able to plan and fulfill all of your fantastical travel dreams! Feel free to click around my site to discover more exciting destinations and itineraries. Yes, Roatan has medical facilities, but it’s advisable to have travel insurance to cover any unexpected medical expenses. Apply sunscreen to protect against sunburn, and stay hydrated in the tropical climate.

coxen hole cruise port

Right at the pier, you’ll find plenty of stores offering both local goods and the traditional duty-free shops found at many cruise ports. There are also many restaurants with outdoor seating to take advantage of Roatan’s fantastic weather. To experience the real Roatan, cruise ship visitors must venture out from the immediate area of the port.

You might exhaust what Coxen Hole itself has to offer in a couple of hours, so I would definitely plan an excursion of some kind as there is so much else to see in Roatan. Do be careful with the roads though – the sidewalks are non-existent in places and the street is busy with cars going back and forward to the port. I wouldn’t have any problems negotiating an island tour with any of these vendors, They were all friendly and keen for your business.

You will then be directly helping the local economy and a small business owner who is trying to compete with the conglomerate that owns the port area. The relationship between Roatan and Honduras is probably what most concerns cruise visitors, as it is fair to say that Honduras does not have the safest reputation. The Port of Roatan is located at Coxen Hole on the island of Roatan, off the coast of mainland Honduras. So I’ve put this guide together for future cruise passengers which I hope you will find helpful when planning a trip to Roatan.
