The Haven on the Norwegian Escape Cruise Ship
These Penthouses have access to The Haven and feature a king-size bed plus dining and sitting areas. Norwegian Escape is a Breakaway Plus-class cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. In partnership with Miami-based Wynwood Brewing Company, Norwegian Escape will feature the first craft beer hall in the cruise industry.
Deck 17
These are highly coveted and fill-up fast as they provide you with a nice view of the pools and some great sun. To get to the front of the ship on deck 17 from Margaritaville, you pass the small jogging track. Even though this is supposed to “close” during the day, you will find people using it to workout throughout the morning and afternoon. One of my favorite features of the Norwegian Escape is the two story ropes course.

The dinner menus are the same at all three complimentary restaurants, but these two are the only ones open for lunch and breakfast. In between the restaurants is the Mixx Bar, a great spot for a pre-dinner drink. A pass can be purchased to use the Thermal Suite for the entire week or a day pass on select port days. Several different spa experiences are available including steam baths, therapy pools, both a sauna and sanarium, a salt bath, and the snow cave- kept at 17 degrees Fahrenheit with actual snow.

Deck location
This brewhouse comes with a keg room, 24 draft beers on tap, and more than 50 different bottled beers. It also has some delicious snacks to go along with the beer, and the decor includes one of those old photo booths, where you can take your own instant photo selfie and add it to the pinboard in the bar. With a large resort-style ship, cruise travelers expect a lot of different places to dine, and the Norwegian Escape delivers, with 28 dining options. Some of these are luxurious and gourmet, others are casual and takeaway. Although several of the venues are complimentary, many are either a fixed surcharge or a la carte.
This buffet style restaurant encompasses the complete aft of this deck, serving food most hours of the day. Once you walk through the fitness center, you enter the Spa area. Here, you have the beauty salon as well as several treatment rooms that offer a variety of spa treatments. Besides walking through this venue a few times to get to the spa, the Princess and I did not utilize any of the equipment. Now that you are mid-ship, you will find deck chairs on both starboard and port side.

District Brew House will serve up 24 beers on tap -- including La Rubia Blonde Ale, brewed especially for Escape -- along with a selection of 50 bottles. Once you've had your fill of the gastropub-style menu, jump in an onsite photo booth with friends, and pin your mugs (pun intended) to the District's pin board. Fun fact is that the "Norwegian Escape" name was selected through a Facebook contest with 10 potential names options. The contest was traditionally called "Norwegians Name Their Ships", and included NCL FB fans votes. The same way company's fans picked the names of Breakaway and Getaway. Escape ship's hull theme is by Guy Harvey (marine wildlife conservationist).

Guy Harvey was the lucky man chosen in 2014 to paint Escape’s hull art. Norwegian Escape has the innovative features found on Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway, as well as a number of new interactive experiences. The new 4,200-passenger miracle by NCL features an expanded Haven – the line’s concept “ship within a ship”. This space (accessible only by keycard) boasts an outdoor terrace, private restaurant, courtyard area with retractable roof pool, whirlpools, spa treatment rooms, separate sauna, private sundeck. Other differences from the Breakaway-class NCL vessels are more Haven Suites (42 to 55), 26 additional Penthouses, 14 Spa access suites, more Studio cabins (59 to 82). Built in 2015, the Norwegian Escape cruise ship weighs 165K tons and has 2174 staterooms for up to 5218 passengers served by 1731 crew.

The Norwegian Escape sails from her home port of Miami year-round on 6- to 14-day cruises to the Bahamas and the eastern and/or western Caribbean. Sailing to these warm weather destinations fits perfectly with her large amount of outdoor activity space, outdoor dining venues, and outdoor bars. Engage in Norwegian Cruise Line's onboard activities, including water parks, casinos, dance clubs, arcades, ropes courses, sports courts, duty-free shops and more. These Mini-Suites include two lower beds that convert to a queen. And because they are aft-facing, the view from your large private balcony is amazing.
Families enjoy spots to come together for some bonding time. These are some of the few, top ways to stay entertained during a Norwegian Escape cruise. The Atrium is also home to a variety of game shows throughout your cruise. Getting “balcony seats” near O’Sheehan’s Pub on Deck 7 can offer a great vantage point to all of the craziness. Catching one of these activities is a great way to take a break from the Caribbean sun, so check your daily schedule for a complete listing. Starboard, you find Pincho, a tapas restaurant, and the neighboring Bayamo.
This venue also offers both live music and virtual concerts. Even if you are not a gambler, it is worth checking out this bar during your cruise. Right behind this area is the main pool or family pool which is situated between the entrance to the water slides and the Kids Aqua Park. It felt a bit tight, so we can only imagine how busy it gets during peak times of the year. Gaining access to this area for our Norwegian Escape Photo Tour, we got to explore the Haven, including an Owner’s Suite that was not occupied. Also located here is the Haven Restaurant, open for all three meals.
On some nights of the cruise, comedy acts were featured here. There were two comedians that alternated showings at 7, 9, and 11pm (adult’s only). Some of these are great for a casual drink, others provide more elegant surroundings. I especially loved the District Brew House, a new partnership for Norwegian with the Wynwood Brewing Company of Miami.
The menu does stay the same all week and is different than the main dining room menus. For those who are looking for some privacy, you can purchase a weekly pass to the Vibe Beach Club, which includes private deck chairs and umbrellas, a private bar, and a hot tub. The cruise ship has two Tony Award-winning musicals in the Escape Theater, which is the largest entertainment venue on the ship. One thing common on the carpet in the cabin passageways of all Norwegian ships is that the "fish face forward", which makes finding your cabin much easier. The carpet in the hallways features small fish all swimming in the same direction--forward.
